Last year, when we started the Sisterhood of the Traveling Books with seventeen early copies of The Prayer Box and over eighty women, it didn’t really occur to us that quite a number of the Sisters would have found their lives or the lives of loved ones affected by cancer. When photos of The Prayer Box at cancer support events began to trickle in, we realized that sometimes when days are the darkest, the best thing we can share is an encouraging story. — The Story Guru

My name is Kirsten Goings. I am forty-four.
At the age of forty, I went to my first mammogram appointment after being forced to follow through.
With no history of Cancer anywhere in family tree, and NO risk factors. I had no concern or worries. I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer and had to have a double mastectomy with treatments for ten years.
I am now a four year survivor!
Thank you for being part of the 2014 Sisterhood Of the Traveling Book, Kris, and thank you for sharing your untold story. May your words guide and encourage another who’s coming along behind you on the path. — Story Guru
